Join
us at Canterbury Horticulture with owner Todd Burnett for an hour-long
tour of one of the region's largest growers of perennial plants.
From propagation and growing to finishing and shipping, the
tour will
show how Canterbury Horticulture provides thousands of perennial
plants to garden centers around the country. Some plants will
be availalble for sale on a cash-only basis. Spend the rest
of the day in Canterbury with a visit to the Prudence Crandall Museum
and other local attractions. There is no fee for this program

Saturday,
August 9, 2008, 10:00 a.m. - Lebanon Town Green Tour & Picnic
Begin the day by
gathering at the Lebanon Historical Society Museum to tour the Lebanon
Town Green, a mile-long swath of land with an accessible walking
path. Encircled by 18th, 19th and 20th century farm houses,
a portion of the green is still in agricultural use. Some
of the most important buildings connected with Connecticut's role
in
the Revolution also border the green. After the tour, a visit
to the modern, air conditioned Lebanon Historical Society Museum
will provide information about Lebanon's role in the Revolution and
an opportunity for a behind-the-scenes tour of collections storage. A
picnic lunch on the Lebanon Historical Society patio at noon will
be followed by a chance to visit the five historic sites around the
green on your own, as well as special Second Saturday colonial crafters
exhibit taking place. Sites include the Governor Trumbull House,
Governor Trumbull, Jr., House, War Office, Beaumont House and Wadsworth
Stable. There
is a cost of $10 for a picnic lunch at the Lebanon Historical Society
and pre-registration is required.
Thursday,
September 25, 2008 - Tastes of the Valley
Join us for The
Last Green Valley's fundraiser and celebration of local farms and
the area's finest restaurants. Invitations will be mailed in
August. This year the event will be held at the Oliver Wight
Tavern at Old Sturbridge Village. Tours of the museum will be included. We
expect more than 15 chefs from the area preparing foods grown in
The Last Green Valley. The evening includes a silent auction,
a raffle of exceptional gift baskets, and a live auction of selected
items.
